Homemade Pizza Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F or 45°C)
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
For the Sauce:
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Toppings:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Various toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of flour and the salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour, a little at a time.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
3. Assemble the Pizza:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it in half (if making two pizzas). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread a generous amount of sauce over the dough.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
- Add your favorite toppings.
4. Bake the Pizza:
- If using a pizza stone, carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone. If using a baking sheet, place it in the oven.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your homemade pizza!
